I was born and raised
(mostly) in the rural and partly submarine southwestern region of the
Netherlands, but also traveled the world in youth and in later life
ended up living and working in the Silicon Valley in the field of
electronic engineering. At about age 9, my parents wisely furnished me
with tutored lessons in the basics of music by way of the multi-clavier
& pedal organ, and involved me in the rich local culture of music
(I've learned to play throughout life the bugle, cornet, alto
saxophone, transverse flute) - all of which failed to avoid my
discovery of the guitar at age 13. Frightened by the possible audible
consequences of my 40-guilder acquisition of an Elvis-replica electric
guitar from my cousin, they supported me through music school (which at
the time exclusively acknowledged the existence of the classical guitar
and not that, as Segovia put it "instrument of the devil which should
have never been
invented" electric). I ended up enjoying and embracing the classical
repertoire (renaissance, baroque, contemporary genres) as much as i did
the electrical idiom.
I currently divide my musical attentions between Fractal (the vast
majority), solo looping (scarce public appearances) and maintaining a
current repertoire on classical guitar (in splendid isolation).

Being in - and being
motivated by - this band has allowed me to stretch and explore my
boundaries as a guitarist (e.g. the honing of discipline in the
cross-picking method), as a sound(e)scapist (through the use of looping
tools) and as a composer. The latter aspect to me was a kind of
personal awakening - fueled by late inspiration but no doubt stimulated
by the confidence of being in tune with a like-minded group of skilled,
sympathetic as well as fearless bandmates.
